New Rockford is an idyllic destination for those who love the outdoors, with fishing, hunting, golf, snowmobiling, and much more available through the different seasons. Below, we offer some information for those interested in hunting and fishing.
North Dakota Hunting
The New Rockford area is in the central waterfowl flyway, promising some of the best hunting in North Dakota. Visitors also find us a mecca for deer and upland game.
Pheasant hunting opportunties exist throughout North Dakota. However, some of the best pheasant hunting is found in SW North Dakota. Sharptail grouse hunting is common in the central, west central part of the state. ND has a lot of open land and plenty of opportunities for the hunter who is willing to work. Ruffed grouse hunting is normally only found in the extreme northern part of North Dakota. The Lewis and Clark Expedition spent more time in North Dakota than in any other state.
The explorers were enchanted by this area. Lewis wrote in his journal on May 5, 1805, "The country is as yesterday, beautiful in the extreme." They saw more game enroute from their winter camp at Fort Mandan to where the Yellowstone enters the Missouri River than anywhere else on their journey.
North Dakota Fishing
For those who possess a passion for fishing, North Dakota's Devil's Lake truly is a paradise. Spectacular prairie sunrises, the tranquility of an undeveloped lake, and world class fishing await you. We would like to invite you to the Devil's Lake region and welcome you to partake in some of the best fishing available anywhere. Excellent walleye fishing. Exciting action for bruiser northern pike. Jumbo perch and monster white bass are waiting for your line. Because of light fishing pressure, there are no slot limits, no closed seasons, and reasonable limits.
Devil's Lake is North Dakota's largest natural lake. Currently, the lake is about 132,000 acres and more than 90% undeveloped. Fishing is outstanding year round for a number of species including: walleye, perch, northern pike and white bass. The lake itself is relatively shallow with and excellent forage base that produces large fish fast. The opportunity exists here to land the trophy of a lifetime. Northern pike of 10+ pounds, 8-pound walleye, jumbo yellow perch and knuckle busting white bass of 3 pounds are not uncommon when fishing Devil's Lake. We believe Devil's Lake has established itself as one the the premier fisheries in the country.
